Bloggers find new freedomsBy GENEVIEVE READ20nov05
AS a devoted mother of five, Hobart blogger Linden Langdon has always felt her main identity is that of "someone's mum".Her weblog www.blog.lindenlangdon.com has given her the opportunity to express herself as an artist, gardener, writer and, most surprisingly, a friend people only thought they knew.
"A friend of mine who I've known for 25 years read my blog recently and said she learned all these things about me that she had no idea about," she said.
"A blog allows you to be the person that not everyone sees, not just the mum or the wife, it allows you to express things in a different way."
She started the blog, which she modestly titles The Ramblings of Linden Langdon, as a space for discussion on printmaking which she studies at the University of Tasmania.
"I started out looking for different techniques and discussions about print work but it soon drifted," she said.
"I am very careful not to write anything that might embarrass my family but there is a buzz in putting something personal out there."
Langdon writes about her children's achievements, her garden, her love for art -- and much more. She receives emails from all over the world from people who have stumbled across her weblog, and those who visit daily.
"I had one lady who thought my drawings were actually of her which was quite strange," Langdon said.
"Most people find it through searching through other links and they offer some wonderful positive feedback."
Like most bloggers, Langdon says keeping an online diary is great motivation to stay creative.
"You set goals in a regular diary which motivate you to achieve them and the blog works like that," she said.

M.70: A large good quality Irish silver loving cup with leaf capped double scroll handles, pedestal foot embossed with acanthus leaf decoration, the body of the cup heavily embossed with fruit, flowers and foliate scroll work. I cartouche engraved with contemporary initials and lion head crest, the other inscribed Nen Castle Course Co. Limerick 1828. 8 inches tall, 10.5 across the handles. 32 troy ounces. Made in Dublin 1785 by Matthew West . £1000. ($2350)
Craig: After an hour of google searching I found a very similar Irish Loving Cup, it turns out that the tradition of handing out trophies at sporting events comes from the use of the Loving cups at Irish weddings and other celebrations. At these events the cup was used to consume celebratory drinks, which you see happen whentoday'ss sports-people get carried away! Above is the cup I found on the internet, bearing in mind the price of the racing cup $2750 au it seems the cup may be a liability. Unless the racing cup has more to reveal??

George 111, Hallmark sterling Silver, Irish Racing Trophy, Matthew West Dublin 1778.........initials engraved on back are (HER) I think. And written in a scroll is (virtute duce).
In a recent visit to the local antique shop with a 'just look policy' we uncovered a silver Irish racing trophy. As we marveled at the detail and the huge price, we toyed with the idea of buying the cup and selling it on in its original home. The question is weather its an investment or a liability?
